Els Tolls and Ausiàs March schools have participated in the activity in the Bosc dels Xiquets
Students of 5 year of Primary School plant 450 copies in the Day of the Tree
115 5th grade Primary Education students from Els Tolls and Ausiàs March centers in Benidorm have participated this morning in the celebration of the seventeenth edition of the 'Tree Day' that took place in the Bosc dels Xiquets, a plot of the Foia del Ca, lands belonging to the Thematic Projects of the Valencian Community (SPTCV). The activity was planned days ago but it had to be postponed due to the weather.
The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, who has the competences of Education, together with the Councilor for the Environment, José Ramón González de Zárate, and the Youth, Ana Pellicer, have accompanied the students in the development of the activity, together to the companions of corporation Cristina Escoda and Tere Águila.
"It is very important," said Toni Pérez, "to transfer the importance of the ecosystem to children and students and to take care of nature." This is "a day of awareness of first level." The mayor thanked the "tireless work" of those who make possible the celebration of the Day of the Tree, among them, the concessionaire of street cleaning, FCC; the McDonald's restaurant chain; or the same SPTCV, which cedes the land. All of them "with the collaboration always" of the councils of Environment and Education, the Department of Gardening or the Rural Section of the Rural Police.
The mayor toured the Bosc dels Xiquets to check "the good growth of the trees they planted in previous editions." Toni Pérez stressed that the important thing "is not just the fact of planting today, but above all, of raising awareness among the little ones about the importance of taking care of the planet and contributing our bit to make that impact globally, something we all need. "
Students who participated in this edition of the Tree Day have previously received informative talks offered by the Environmental Volunteering of Benidorm. 200 specimens of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis), 50 of carob (Ceratonia siliqua), 100 of alladro (Rhamnus alaternus), 50 kermes oak (Quercus coccifera) and 50 palmitos (Chamaerops humilis) have been planted. All these copies have been donated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Medi Ambient, Canvi Climàtic and Desenvolupament.
