On the centenary of his birth, Pep “el Carreró” prize for a musical composition is awarded, in which ten compositions participate
SM l’Illa offers this Saturday a tribute concert to Pep “el Carreró”
On the same day that the centenary of the birth of Josep Zaragoza Pérez is commemorated, l’Illa de Benidorm Musical Society will offer a tribute concert at Julio Iglesias Auditorium in l’Aigüera Park, at seven in the afternoon.
The Councilor for Culture Jaime Jesús Pérez Esteban stressed that as announced last July, this Saturday the winner of the musical composition contest Pep "el Carreró" will be known, highlighting "the complexity of playing poems and that 10 works on the poem 'Autopoesía' have been submitted to the contest, according to the contest rules.
The award, the councilor recalled, has an endowment of 3,000 euros and a trophy. l’Illa Musical Society will perform the winning piece during the tribute concert.
Pérez Esteban has recalled that on October 24, 1920 Josep Zaragoza Pérez was born on Quatre Cantos street in Benidorm, a self-taught poet, portrayed for several decades Benidorm in literary composition developed in verse. The councilor highlighted that Josep Zaragoza Pérez received Ciutat de Benidorm Cultural Award in 2007, posthumously, and that since 2009 a street in Benidorm has his name.
In that year, 2009, musicians from l’Illa de Benidorm Musical Society performed some of his poems and in 2020 a jury made up of several of those musicians will proceed to select the composition worthy of the award.
