Registration for the workshops is free and can be done by email

Young audiences will have their own space for creation and projection within the 5th edition of Skyline Benidorm Film Festival, which will take place from June 25 to July 4. The organization of the short film contest, promoted with the support of the Department of Culture, has scheduled several parallel activities during the festival aimed at "instilling culture and film among young people, in this case through workshops and specific screenings", as advanced today by the mayor of the area, Jaime Jesús Pérez.

The director of the festival, Beatriz Hernández, has informed that these proposals “will be concentrated in two days of the festival, on June 28 and 29, combining with the main activity of the contest: the projection of the short films of the four sections to competition".

As detailed by the councilor and the Skyline director, "two free workshops have been scheduled: one on script writing, and another on cinema and social networks." Registrations can be formalized by sending an email to info@skylinefest.es indicating your full name, contact email and age, and the workshop or workshops in which you wish to participate.

The first of the workshops will take place on Monday June 28 from 11.00 to 12.30 in the municipal building El Torrejó and will be run by Emilio Martí, Valencian animator and art therapist. In this ‘young animated documentary script’ workshop, aimed at those who want to get started in writing, the best ways to narrate personal experiences with the power and scope of film animation will be explored.

Hernández has detailed that after the workshop “the six finalist short films of the Students Section will be screened and those attending these activities and spectators will be in charge of voting for the winning work, which will obtain as a prize a one-year distribution pass for national festivals and sponsored by the Movibeta platform ”. The finalist short films will also be screened in the Sustainability Section.

The following day, June 29, the second of the workshops will be held, given by Bea Martínez, cultural manager and director of Proyecta contest, with the support of the pedagogue Antonio L. Calvo. The objectives of this workshop are to foster a critical spirit in young people about what they see and read on social networks, to know the different uses that are made of them, to know how to distinguish what is acceptable and what is not and also between fiction content or reality, and equip students with strategies to face conflict in social networks. This workshop will begin after the screening of the short films made in 2019 and 2020 within the municipal project Documóvil; a projection scheduled at 5:00 pm in the Assembly Hall of the City Council.

The Councilor for Culture has highlighted “that with the projection of the works created and shot by the Secondary students of the educational centers of the city within the Documóvil project of the Department of Equality, this edition of the Skyline makes a 'nod' to the talent and the creativity of the young people of Benidorm, who in the short films scripted and recorded by themselves expose their vision of gender inequality and violence using audiovisual language ”.

All this programming and activities will be sent to youth, cultural and sports associations, as well as to educational centers in the city to "try to reach as many young audiences as possible."
