The recycling of glass grew in Benidorm by 3% during the summer compared to the previous year to reach 1,204 tons, according to the data provided by Ecovidrio. This result has earned the award 'Green Iglú' in the municipality, for its commitment and involvement in recycling and sustainability, which on behalf of the city has received the councilor for Environment, José Ramón González de Zárate, from the hands of the manager from the Ecovidrio area, Roberto Fuentes.
In the summer national campaign 'Take note, recycle glass' have involved a total of 370 catering establishments in Benidorm. For this campaign, the non-profit entity responsible for the management of glass recycling in Spain installed containers, vinylized more than 20, and delivered 130 cubes adapted to the needs of the hoteliers. In addition, it increased the frequency of collection of these containers.
The Councilor for the Environment thanked "the involvement of the hospitality sector in this campaign, since yours is a key activity to generate 50% of glass containers." De Zárate has highlighted that "the 1,204 tons of containers collected in Benidorm have accounted for more than 4% of the total registered nationally in the 80 municipalities of Spain that have participated in this initiative."
Ecovidrio have recalled that this summer campaign, in which they have taken part 6,300 establishments of the Spanish geography, carried with prizes and incentives for local catering more committed to recycling, which have been awarded a master class in charge of the che Angel León in his restaurant Aponiente, awarded with two Michelin stars.
The person in charge of Environment has highlighted "Benidorm's commitment to its environment and sustainability", as "the data show". The year 2016 closed with a total of 3,686,860 kilograms of recycled glass in Benidorm, which gives an average of 55.3 kilos per inhabitant, "well above the national average
