In his participation in Greencities congress in Málaga on the digital ecosystem of the DTI, the mayor is committed to "the quality of the data as an opportunity for improvement for the destination"
Pérez defends sharing data for the development of Competitive Intelligence and "taking into account the data of the resident and that of the tourist"
It proposes to follow the leadership of SEGITTUR, unite wills and continue normalization
The mayor of Benidorm has participated this morning in the debate on 'The DTI digital ecosystem: data spaces' on the opening day of the Greencities & S-Moving 2022 event held in Malaga, with a change in format, although maintaining the spirit and the objective, since 2009.
Together with the President of SEGITTUR, Enrique Martínez Marín, the Director of Territories and Tourism of Phygital (Minsait-Indra) and Professor Antonio Guevara, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism of the University of Malaga, moderated by the Vice President of the Smart Cities Commission of AMETIC, John Mora, the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, has defended in his presentation "the opportunity for improvement for the destination that working with data means, the key to governance".
Pérez has outlined the process followed by Benidorm since 2015, pointing out that "we can now speak of data quality, starting from the data generated by the city itself". And this sense has highlighted "both the data of the tourist who arrives through active listening and sensory capture as well as the data of the resident through, also, processes of citizen participation". In this sense, he considered it key to “take into account social sustainability and economic sustainability”. It is necessary, Pérez pointed out, “a permanent balance that arises, precisely, from the collection and analysis of data in the territory; in the city".
He insisted on the need to share data and gave the example of Benidorm's experience in this field: “institutional data, territory data, tourist data, resident data, business data and University data; an ecosystem that is only understood from the generosity of sharing them to achieve Competitive Intelligence”.
"We all have to help each other," said the mayor of Benidorm, in a process of creating a joint brand that, in the case of Benidorm, brings together the Costa Blanca, the Valencian Community and the Spain brand. Because, in addition, Pérez indicated, "the more data we can process, the more challenges we will be able to overcome."
Pérez explained Benidorm's commitment "to sustainable smart co-governance" and the data-sharing spaces that Benidorm already has open, "with the Smart Office of the City Council, Visit Benidorm, HOSBEC, Hidraqua -through Dinapsis Lab- and the Smart Invattur Lab”, together with the territorial Lab that the city itself represents in its emblematic elements.
Pérez asked to "join wills", "follow the leadership of SEGITTUR and attend to the SDGs, especially SDG17 that proposes alliances to achieve the objectives", because, he said, "the experience of the standard, the tests and the DTI Network itself strengthen”. He recognized “intensity and effort, even tension, to defend certification after certification”, but described it as “very positive” for the interests of the city.
This aspect was endorsed by the president of SEGITTUR, Enrique Martínez Marín, who encouraged the DTIs to pass audits and renew certifications. At the moment there are only five certified DTIs in Spain, whose standards already have international implementation.
