'Pedro Zaragoza Orts Year' starts this Sunday, May 15, coinciding with the day on which the former mayor would have turned 100. It will be with an act at Plaza de la Hispanidad, at 09:45 a.m., in which one of the most important events of Pedro Zaragoza's management will be remembered and which, without a doubt, marked a before and after for Benidorm: the supply of drinking water. A milestone that at the time, on February 28, 1960, was witnessed with the inauguration of the Elche Park fountain, on whose bed a stone was placed with the inscription "Illusion is also lived".
The mayor, Toni Pérez, has invited the public "to participate in the opening of the 'Pedro Zaragoza Orts Year' and the rest of the events that will be scheduled from this Sunday until May 14, 2023". Some acts, he specified, in which "throughout the year through the figure of Pedro Zaragoza Orts, residents and visitors will be able to go through and learn more in detail about some of the most decisive passages of the last six or seven decades and that they have been key to the configuration of the modern city, both from a tourist and urban point of view, and they are also key to understanding the recent history of Benidorm”.
At the opening ceremony scheduled for this Sunday, the mayor has advanced that "it will be a simple act, but loaded with symbolism."
