The European Week of Mobility of Benidorm dedicates today's day to pedestrians

Open access to pedestrians and cyclists from Avenida Beniardà to the shopping center and greenways

Abierto el acceso a peatones y ciclistas de la Avenida Beniardà hasta el centro comercial y vías verdes

The commemoration of the European Week of Mobility in Benidorm has focused today on the pedestrian. The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, together with the councilors of Mobility and Sports, José Ramón González de Zárate and Arturo Cabrillo, made the walking tour along Beniardá Avenue from the train station until their connection with the CV-70. This layout, recently renovated, has been adapted for the exclusive use of cyclists and pedestrians.

The person in charge of Mobility remembered that during all this legislature "a great effort is being made so that the pedestrians have safe routes by which to walk around the city". In this sense, González de Zárate stressed that one of the conclusions of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS), stated that in Benidorm "practically everyone moves from one place to another walking". "Citizens like to walk before using the private vehicle, public transport or bicycle," the councilor stressed, "so we must continue to support pedestrian policies and ensure their safety."

González de Zárate emphasized the benefits of this adapted route: "It allows -said- to continue on the CV-70 to La Nucía or Polop by bike, walking or practicing 'running', connecting with the Els Tolls neighborhood and with the future node of connections for pedestrians and cyclists that will be developed by Unibail-Rodamco ", the construction company of Benidorm shopping center. The person in charge of Mobility did not want to stop pointing out that "when the Generalitat authorizes it, all the green ways of the Moralet area will be united", grouped around the old railway tracks.

After the route of the extension of Beniarda Avenue, after the actions carried out by the City Council, it is verified that the great beneficiaries are pedestrians. "Before," González de Zárate insisted, "it was full of cars, it could not happen." Now the City Council has restored the road, has improved and increased the lighting, placed banks and bins. "We have completely cleared it so that citizens can circulate without any problem walking or cycling. That's why I encourage neighbors to come and see him. It is being used and a lot, "he concluded.
