The new water infrastructure responds correctly in the last episode of rains

14 March 2017
Las nuevas infraestructuras hídricas responden correctamente en el último episodio de lluvias

There have been no floods at points where historically water avenues have been recorded

The water infrastructures executed in the last months in the avenues Alfonso Puchades, Doctor Orts Llorca and Tomás Ortuño "have responded magnificently" to the last episodes of intense rains that have been registered in Benidorm, avoiding the accumulation of water in points in which " historically there were problems of flooding, "has confirmed the mayor, Toni Pérez.

The last of these episodes occurred yesterday, when in 20 hours were collected between 55 and 70 liters per square meter in different parts of the city.

Pérez, accompanied by representatives of several groups of the corporation, visited this midday one of the hitherto more conflictive points when there were precipitations of a certain intensity: the confluence of the avenues Alfonso Puchades and Doctor Orts Llorca.

At that point, and within the works that the City Council is carrying out from Orts Llorca to Lepanto Street, has installed "a large box of 25 cubic meters," which yesterday and during the rains of January has prevented the accumulation of water at this point and, with it, "the traditional problems of floods that forced to suspend the circulation of vehicles".

The mayor recalled that this work to improve the pipelines, valued at 350,000 euros, "fits with the one that is running the Provincial Council of Alicante in the lower part of Orts Llorca, to the intersection with the avenue of Mediterráneo for an amount greater than the 750,000 euros. " Both works have doubled the collection capacity and have multiplied by three the drainage of the rainwater.

Pérez has indicated that it deals with "necessary and very intelligent investments" and added that in view of the response that the new water infrastructure has had "everything indicates that the problems of flooding at this point have gone down in history" .

Moreover without problems of accumulation of water yesterday's rains were settled in the recently pedestrianized section of Tomás Ortuño, between Mercado and La Garita streets. The mayor has evoked as "any rainy day walking along that street was to end soaked," which did not happen last Monday. "Many traders and residents called us to move that the work had given an optimum result," he said.

The good performance of this work in Tomás Ortuño street has also contributed the one realized in the first semester of 2016 in the high section of Ruzafa, Los Arcos and El Pino streeets, where a system of rainwater collection was implemented.
