Benidorm City Council, through the Department of Health, has developed an extraordinary control campaign throughout this week in the town's public educational centers to analyze its water network and verify the quality of the water for the start of the school year. 2023-2024, which starts next Monday. This was announced by the Councilor for Health, Ana Pellicer, who explained that this campaign is being carried out by the technicians of the Municipal Laboratory, and recalled that Benidorm “is a pioneer and exemplary” in this type of action. , "whose ultimate objective is to guarantee the safety of the thousands of children and young people in our city, from a health point of view, because of their imminent return to the classrooms."
Pellicer explained that "during the summer break for school holidays, the pipes in these centers have been stopped and practically unused, so we consider it necessary to exhaustively review their condition to verify that the water that will come out of the taps is of good quality. ” and, in turn, to rule out the presence of pathogens.
To do this, technicians from the Municipal Laboratory have gone to each of the schools to take samples and analyze the microbiological parameters and the physical-chemical parameters, with which it is observed, among other things, that the chlorine level is correct and that there is no presence of bacteria such as legionella, e.coli, and others. Likewise, to complete this action, a hyperchlorination process has also been carried out in these infrastructures.
This extraordinary analytical campaign has covered a total of 17 educational centers: the thirteen public schools of Benidorm, the three municipal nursery schools as well and the Doble Amor occupational center, attended by people with diversity from all over Marina Baixa. The councillor for Health recalled that, apart from these special analyses, the control of the water installations in the educational centers is then extended throughout the year with periodic analyses both on the network and on the drinking fountains in the dining rooms or the fountains that there are in the playgrounds.
On the other hand, Ana Pellicer explained that the Municipal Laboratory also carries out rigorous controls on the kitchens and the menus that will be served in just a few days in the school canteens of all the city's public centers and other facilities of the centers. schoolchildren. In short, “it is a work focused on prevention,” according to Pellicer, who has also conveyed a message to families with children in Benidorm schools: “For this City Council, the health safety of the little ones is a priority and we put all the means at our disposal to make it so.”
