The department of Mobility has already authorized 2,104 residents to circulate on Armada Española Avenue, which from this next Monday, January 16, will be 100% semi -pedestrian, limiting the circulation to authorized vehicles. The councilman of the department, José Ramón González de Zárate, recalled that last April it was announced the partly-pedestrianised of the first line of Paseo de Poniente and gave several months to citizens to request the relevant authorizations to access with their vehicles to the Avenue.
In this period of testing and adaptation "we have greatly reduced traffic of Armada Española, especially of motorcycles", as well as "they have reduced the speed limit". "We have to gain space for pedestrians," he said, because "it is good for commerce, for restaurants, for tourists and for neighbors."
De Zárate indicated that the number of authorized vehicles show that "we are not being restrictive and we are allowing circulation to all neighbors that reside in the section that goes from the left side of Jaime I Avenue until the limit with the municipal term of Finestrat ". Besides these more than 2,100 residents are joined to public transport, services and loading and unloading vehicles.
The councilman clarified that the control of entry and movement of vehicles will be through a "system of cameras with readers of registration" and the authorization "is direct," so that authorized drivers do not need to carry any documents with them. In fact, the City Hall will only notify the denial of requests; A circumstance which for the moment affects only 26 vehicles, to which the reasons for which the authorization has been rejected will be communicated.
In addition, it has been appealed residents and workers in the area who have not asked for authorization to do so in the coming days, and it has been pointed out that hotels and tourist apartments can periodically request permission for vehicles of their customers.
Near Ricardo Bayona Avenue and Parque de Elche, notices have been placed to inform about the restricted circulation on Armada Española Avenue, and that the activity of loading and unloading can only be carried out from 07.00 to 10.30 hours .
The councilman explained that with this pedestrian Avenue is followed the model that has worked for more than a decade on Levante beach and has become a "referent."
