The Mobility Council supports extending the pedestrianization of Tomás Ortuño to Limones street

31 August 2017
El Consejo de Movilidad apoya prolongar la peatonalización de Tomás Ortuño hasta Limones

The measure must be accompanied by changes of circulation in Marqués de Comillas and Maravall streets

One of the first PTUS of Spain will be written to regulate the public transport and the discretionary buses

The Mobility Council has supported that the second phase of pedestrianization of Tomás Ortuño will continue until the crossing with Limones street, instead of arriving only until Apolo XI. José Ramón González de Zárate has informed about that at the end of the meeting, which includes the groups of the corporation, municipal technicians, Local Police, taxi sector and representatives of associations of business groups and neighbours.

Zárate recalled that the works of the second phase of pedestrianization of Tomás Ortuño are included in the 2017 budget approved by PP, Ciudadanos por Benidorm (CBM) and Ciudadanos (Cs), and explained that it has been the technicians who have valued the performance. Extending the pedestrianization forces to redesign the traffic of the area and avoid congestion, since "Tomás Ortuño is the only exit street of the center between Jaime I and l'Aigüera".

Thus, Maravall happens to be "of ascent", and in Marqués de Comillas the vehicles will circulate "from Almendros to Jaime I". On this last street, the Council will study the proposal of Cs and Compromís-Los Verdes so that the stretch between Jaime I and Maravall is of double direction of circulation.

In addition, the circulation changes also in the streets Roldán and Puig Campana, while San Antonio becomes pedestrian.

The councilman has ensured that with these changes "we managed to level the vehicles entering and leaving the center" and "to transfer to Maravall street part of the buses that now circulate in Almendros."

In addition to extending the pedestrianization of Tomás Ortuño, the Council has agreed to draft a "Sustainable Urban Transport Plan (PTUS)", which "will surely be the first in all of Spain" and in which "a diagnosis of The problems that exist in the matter of public transport and discretionary buses ". De Zárate has remarked that it will be the PTUS that will mark how to act and regulate the circulation and stops of this type of transport.

The Mobility Council has also supported "slowing the traffic" in the section of the avenue of Doctor Perez Llorca between Valencia and Martínez Alejos creating a zig-zag with urban furniture. In addition, at the request of the taxi sector, the street Mallorca that changes the direction of circulation in the section between Gerona and Mediterranean, so that the vehicles leave to the latter.

Likewise, the body has supported the request of the Department of Public Security to place retractable pivots in all pedestrian streets; while measures will be studied to improve mobility in the new vials of Foietes Park and its area of influence.
