From Wednesday, the vehicles that circulate in Almendros street can reach Jaime I through Marqués de Comillas
Mobility changes the direction of Marqués de Comillas for the new pedestrian area in Tomás Ortuño
This measure will alleviate the traffic in Elche Park
Benidorm City Council will change from Wednesday, November 8, the direction of the circulation of Marqués de Comillas Street to reorder the traffic for the next pedestrianization of a new stretch of Tomás Ortuño. The councilman of Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate, has informed that "as of Wednesday the vehicles that circulate along the avenue of Los Almendros will be able to arrive at Jaime I through Marqués de Comillas", that "it becomes a street of exit from the center instead of entry as it has been until now ".
The councillor explained that this change has the approval of the Local Police, municipal technicians and the Mobility Council, and will contribute "to reduce traffic on the street Mayor José Such, in front of Elche Park". De Zárate has indicated that "it will be a positive measure", because "we get another piece of our coastal front practically free of traffic and in which pedestrians and bicycles are going to be more comfortable".
Although the works in Tomás Ortuño to make it a pedestrian street will not begin until the third week of November, the City Council has decided to advance the circulation change in Marqués de Comillas because "the advantages will be noticed already during the Major Patron Festivities since we will not have to cut to traffic Los Almendros avenue from hours before the offering or the floats ".
The councilman explained that "later" the section of Marqués de Comillas that runs between Maravall and Jaime I "will be double direction." In this way, in addition to leaving Jaime I, vehicles can enter this avenue to reach Maravall. De Zárate has clarified that measure "we can not apply it since already because it requires several traffic light crossings".
Works in Herrerías and Gerona streets
The person in charge of Mobility has indicated that Herrerías street, in which improvement works are being carried out, will be open to traffic on Wednesday, once the works on the road have been completed. That same day Emilio Ortuño Street will be closed for the installation of 'El Porrat', a celebration of the Major Patron Festivities.
Another road under construction and also reopening to traffic this week is Gerona street in the section between Doctor Orts Llorca and Esperanto -where the work in the subsoil has already finished-, thus enabling the 'mascletas', fireworks displays, on Avenida del Mediterráneo .
