Minute of silence in Benidorm in memory of the first victim of sexist violence in the Region of 2018
This afternoon a minute of silence has been observed at the doors of Benidorm City Council in memory of the first victim of gender violence in 2018 in the Valencian Community. The mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, and the councilor for Equality, Paquita Ripoll, were present to which public workers and neighbors have joined, which have shown, in this way, their strongest rejection of this social scourge.
On this occasion, the victim was a 60-year-old Bulgarian woman who was allegedly murdered at the hands of her husband, 57, also of the same nationality, in the Bona Vida district of Orihuela. The man confessed the crime to the police.
With this murder are already 28 women who have lost their lives in Spain because of gender violence so far this year, a figure that could increase if a case is confirmed that is still being investigated. The number of children under 18 who have been orphaned amounts to 15. The Department of Equality reminds that the 016 is the number against sexist violence, is free, leaves no trace on the bill but it must be deleted from the call history.
