Madrid Regional Government explores Benidorm’s Smart Tourism Management Model
Madrid’s Tourism Director General visits the BeCiTi Hub with Mayor Toni Pérez to explore the city platform and its Integration with the PID, Digital Identity Platform
The Director General of Tourism and Hospitality of the Madrid Regional Government, Laura Martínez, visited Benidorm’s innovation hub this Tuesday, located at the Centre Municipal de El Torrejó, to gain an in-depth understanding of the smart tourism management model through which the city "has become a benchmark", as she highlighted.
During her visit to the BeCiTi hub, the Madrid official was accompanied by Benidorm Mayor Toni Pérez; Councillor for Innovation Aida García Mayor; Councillor for Communication and the Presidency Juan Díaz; Director General of Turisme Comunitat Valenciana José Manuel Camarero; Director of Tourism Intelligence and Innovation Jordi Bataller; and the members of the technical team responsible for the development and management of this technology.
During the working meeting, the technical team presented Laura Martínez with the operation of tools such as the Benidorm CORE platform, which provides real-time information on the city’s status, beaches, mobility, public car parks, air quality and many other parameters. The Director General also showed interest in the steps taken by the city to integrate this platform with the national Smart Destinations Platform (PID), which is also based in Benidorm.
Mayor Toni Pérez recalled that in 2018 "Benidorm was a pioneer, opening the way and setting the guidelines for the certification and management of smart tourism destinations, and we have continued investing and innovating ever since."
The Mayor highlighted that "eight years later, we remain a benchmark and a model for other regions, which look to Benidorm to learn from and replicate our approach" — a model "recognised both within and beyond our borders."
