"Jane's Walk Benidorm" promotes walks among neighbors to know and improve the neighborhoods of the city
Benidorm celebrates next Saturday May 5 an activity promoted by the Department of Mobility and Sports called 'Jane's Walk Benidorm' of sporting and social character, which consists of touring the main EDUSI areas of Benidorm starting from the park Els Ametlers, located in Italia street.
Jane's Walk has been developed in the main cities of the world and is a walking tour through the different neighborhoods of the city. Its name honors the urban activist and writer Jane Jacobs, and takes place annually during the first weekend of May coinciding with her birthday.
Jane's Walks is aimed at all those citizens and volunteers who, through the tour, have an interest in improving the neighborhoods where they live, work or socialize. It is not always about architecture and heritage, but about offering a more personal view of the local culture, social history and planning problems faced by residents.
The councilman of Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate congratulated Els Tolls Neighborhood Association, for carrying out this initiative related to Environment, Sustainability, Sport and Accessibility, "this has changed and the absolute priority in the tourist cities are pedestrians. "
The Councilor for Sports, Arturo Cabrillo encouraged all residents to enjoy a sports day walking through the main roads through which EDUSI provides initiatives to improve the city and involving pedestrians.
The president of the Association of Neighbors Els Tolls, Juan Antonio Lizancos remembered the figure of Jane Jacobs to improve the neighborhoods in the cities. This activity will begin at 10:00 am and is mainly directed at the neighbor "who in the end is the one who knows his neighborhood better." We need to know what the neighbor thinks because he knows about urbanism much more than we think and he knows what the neighborhood needs, people who want to contribute with their knowledge about the green zones and their neighborhoods ".
The tour will depart from Els Ametlers Park (Italia street), Els Tolls Bosque, Paseo La Granota, Pinada del Moralet, Sports Center and Foietes Park, Limones, Tomas Ortuño until you reach l'Hort de Colón.
