Last night the GTH international handball tournament closed, which brought together eight of the best European teams in the male and female categories over the weekend in Benidorm. After three days of matches, the German BBM Bietigheim, coached by the former Hispanic Iker Romero, won the title of champion in the men's draw, in which TM Benidorm was the fourth classified; while the players of AtticGo from Elche prevailed in the women's team, thus ensuring that the champions' trophy remained in the province. Fertiberia Puerto Sagunto and Sola HK were male and female runners-up respectively.
The mayor and president of the Provincial Council, Toni Pérez; the regional secretary for Culture and Sports, Paula Añó; the president of the Valencian Handball Federation, Pedro Vicente Fuertes; and the women's national team, Ambros Martín, presented the trophies to the champions and runners-up of each modality, as well as to the best players in the competition.
Toni Pérez indicated that "the province has a long tradition in the world of national handball, with a youth team of players who, generation after generation, have nurtured the national teams and with teams in the highest male and female categories, who have led and continue to lead the name of Alicante throughout Europe”.
Apart from the aforementioned teams, the US Ivry Handball, in the men's category, has participated in the GTH tournament; the VOC Amsterdam, and the Elda Prestige, for women.
