The work is on display in the capital until December 10

The Urban Park of Foietes in Benidorm has been one of the finalist projects of the engineering award 'Ciudad yTerritorio Albert Serratosa', created by the College of Civil Engineers of Roads, Canals and Ports and that for three years is delivered by Caminos Foundation.

An award that annually recognizes the actions of urban growth or regeneration in the area of the city and territory that are relevant and that contribute in the medium and long term to a sustainable development of the environments in which they are integrated, providing special attention to excellence, both in design and in planning and execution.

The mayor, Toni Pérez, stressed that "for Benidorm is a satisfaction that a project promoted in municipal headquarters has disputed this prize with capitals like Santander, La Coruña, Bilbao, Málaga and Vitoria, which are leading and pioneer in sustainable urban design ". "It is," he assured, "a recognition of our commitment to urban regeneration practiced under two premises: that of creating more livable spaces for citizens and doing so by achieving the best and most respectful integration in the environment."

Until next December 10 the Foietes Park work will be exhibited at the headquarters of the College of Civil Engineers of the capital, and will be included in the Journal of Public Works of this institution.

This is the first time that Benidorm presents itself to this event. From the Engineering area we chose the project of 'Urban Regeneration in the Foietes Ravine' - which gave rise to the park of the same name - to understand that this action already performed was perfectly adapted to the guidelines of the honorary award, which finally has been for Santander for the recovery of its bay.

Details of the project

The Foietes Park was designed at the beginning of 2009 and the works began in 2015 with regional funding within the Special Support Plan for Productive Investment in municipalities of the Valencian Community. This park, opened in mid-2017, has allowed the Foietes ravine and continue the urban fabric of Benidorm, uniting the Colonia Madrid and the Ciudad Deportiva Guillermo Amor with the residential, school and health area of Foietes and the surroundings of the Venezuela street

This green area has 4 kilometers of bike lane and lane 'running', and a wooded area in the upper part; and it has generated a new vial of more than one kilometer that connects Mercasa with the residence for Seniors and Ricardo Bayona Avenue. This new road has also resulted in the creation of around 300 parking spaces, which add to the more than 600 conditioned in the upper part of the park, formerly known as Mercasa.
