Festivities in honor of Sant Jaume Apóstol, patron saint of Benidorm
Benidorm finalizes the acts that, in homage to its patron saint Sant Jaume, take place from July 22 to Sunday, August 6.
The Councilor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, and the president of the Comissió de les Festes Majors Patronals 2023, Vicente Solaz, have presented today the program of activities that will begin this Saturday night on the esplanade of the Yacht Club with dinner in honor of the Apostle, starting at 9:00 p.m.
Mariló Cebreros thanked the work carried out by the Comissió, which "has known" how to maintain one of the "most traditional traditions in Benidorm" dedicated to its patron "who is also from Spain", recalled the mayor.
For his part, Vicente Solaz highlighted the support received from the City Council and, especially from the Department, so that Benidorm lives "the party it deserves" and has valued the commitment of the Comissió that he presides over to "keep alive and promote the festivals and traditions of the city”.
After the gala dinner, the events will move to Tuesday the 25th, Patron's Day, which, starting at noon, will announce the party with the ringing of bells and an aerial bombardment from Plaça de la Senyoria. In the afternoon, a parade will leave from the Casa del Fester 'Diego Cano Enguera' at 6:30 p.m. to collect the image of the saint at the headquarters of the ACR 'La Barqueta'.
At 7:30 p.m., one of the Comissió's best-kept secrets will be revealed: the poster for the 2023 Festes Majors Patronals, the work of local artist Pilar Arroyo. It will be in front of the facade of the municipal building of El Torrejó. Then, at 8:30 p.m., there will be a mass in honor of the patron in the church of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna, after which the bowtie of the queens of the FMP and the Standard Bearer will be placed on the banner of the Comissió.
The acts will continue with the lighting of the traditional 'stampeta' in honor of the apostle and the 'Ball del peuet' that will star the queens Angélica Morenilla and Daniela Talavera, and their court of honor. Afterward, a fireworks display will go off. The night will end with a popular festival in Plaça de Castellar.
The last act of the festival program will be moved to August 6, with a concert, starting at 9:00 p.m., by the ACR rondalla 'La Barqueta', also in the church of Sant Jaume and Santa Anna.
