Festa de la Solidaritat results in more than a hundred blood donations
Almost half of this year's new donors were achieved in the initiative organized by the City Council and the Penyes Association
The Festa de la Solidaritat, organized by the Penyes Association in collaboration with Benidorm City Council and held last Tuesday, has resulted in more than a hundred blood donations, according to the figures transferred to the Health Department by the Center of Transfusions of the Valencian Community.
The councillor of Health, Ana Pellicer, has given a “very positive” assessment of this solidarity day of blood donation with which “initial expectations have even been met and even exceeded, reaching 104 effective extractions.”
For her part, the person in charge of Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, has applauded “once the altruistic and committed character of the supporters' club group, which has responded to this call that contributes to saving lives.” Cebreros has thanked the Associació de Penyes chaired by Jaume Cortés “for his involvement with this cause and his constant presence throughout the donation day, also holding a raffle among the people who participated in this solidarity action.”
Pellicer highlighted that “this solidarity day has once again demonstrated its power to attract new donors”, since “almost half of the people who this year have donated blood for the first time have done so precisely at the Solidarity Festival”. Specifically, so far in 2024, 37 new donors have been registered in Benidorm, of which 16 debuted last Tuesday
This Solidarity Festival is the sixteenth blood donation day that has been held in Benidorm since the beginning of the year, always with the collaboration of the City Council. The Councilor for Health explained that "Benidorm hosts between two and four blood donation days a month in different parts of the city, mainly municipal spaces, to facilitate participation as much as possible." A few days that "usually end with a good response from donors."
According to the balance communicated by Pellicer, “so far this year, Benidorm has contributed to the Provincial Blood Bank with nearly half a thousand donations.”
Every day in the Valencian Community, 250 units of blood are needed to meet the demand of hospitals, especially for cancer patients but also for people who are victims of traffic accidents or who suffer blood loss from surgery.
