The court has claimed the City Council the file for the purchase of 19 opinómetros made by the socialist government in 2010

De Zárate asks PSOE political party explanations about the investigation for alleged illegal financing

09 May 2018
De Zárate pide al PSOE local explicaciones sobre la investigación por supuesta financiación ilegal

The spokesman of the PP requires Rubén Martínez to face the information that "damage the image of Benidorm"

The spokesman of the government team, José Ramón González de Zárate, has demanded the general secretary of the PSOE and the visible head of the municipal socialist group, Rubén Martínez, to "give explanations" about the investigation opened by the Court of Instruction No. 1 of Benidorm for alleged illegal financing of this party.

De Zárate has claimed these explanations after learning that, within this case, the judge has cited to declare as investigated a councilor of the socialist municipal group, a former mayor of the PSOE and two businessmen, according to the news appeared in several media. This information indicates that this citation is related to the acquisition of 19 opinómetros by the City Council in 2010, under the socialist government and within the projects of the so-called Plan E 2.

De Zárate recalled that the Court asked the City Council for this file, which "we send immediately, complying with the judicial mandate." "From there," he clarified, "we do not know anything else, and today we wake up with the news that they have been investigated"; some information that "damage the image of Benidorm".

For the sake of "transparency and good governance", the popular spokesman has called on Martínez to explain "if the PSOE's 2011 electoral campaign, 'Pasión por Benidorm', was made by the company that was awarded the opinómetros" and " how were they paid ". Some questions that, already in that day, formulated by the PP and other two political parties that concurred to the elections: Compromís and ALBEN.

De Zárate has urged Rubén Martínez "not to hide in his snail shell" and "show his face" since "since 2008 he is the local secretary general of the PSOE". In addition, in 2011, in the election campaign now under suspicion, ranked third of the PSOE candidacy. He also challenged the socialists of Benidorm to appear in the case and ask for an opinion from the opinómetros to "see the real cost of these machines and see if it matches with what they paid for them".

Finally, the spokesman of the PP has referred to the internal audits carried out by PSOE and Compromís at the regional level to clarify the alleged illegal financing and irregularities in the electoral campaigns of 2007 and 2011 of both parties. Some audits that he has questioned, since they indicate that "there is nothing", while "the judges are saying that representatives of the socialist party be investigated.
