An exhibition about the inhabitants of Cova Gelada starts the cultural acts of the Poblament Charter

09 May 2018
Una exposición sobre los pobladores de la Cova Gelada inicia los actos culturales de la Carta de Poblament

An exhibition about the inhabitants of Cova Gelada during Prehistory began last night the cultural events organized to commemorate the 693 anniversary of the granting of the Charter of Poblament of Benidorm by Almirall Bernat de Sarriá. The inauguration was attended, among others, by the acting mayor and councilor for Culture, Ana Pellicer; the mayor of Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles; members of the corporation; the Queens of the Festes Majors Patronals, Fátima Carrobles and Anna Calbo; the president of the Comissió, Paco Marín; the president of l'Associació de Penyes, Dani Luque; and the president of the Grup Carta de Poblament, Mª Luz Navarro.

The exhibition 'Carta de Poblament dels primers pobladors', directed by Vanessa Navarro and Franscesc Llorca and exhibited in the City Hall of Art, contextualizes this cave in the Serra Gelada Natural Park and details the result of the archaeological intervention carried out in January 2011, which allowed us to verify the human presence in a period between 31,300 and 26,900 years before Christ. It also reviews the diet and the natural environment in which these first settlers lived, and explains the current state of the deposit.

The cultural program on the occasion of the commemoration of the founding of Benidorm follows this afternoon from 20.30 in the Assembly Hall of the City Council with the play 'Could happen' by the Grup Carta de Poblament. The same hall will host a concert of the Orquestra de Cambra i Cors de la Unión Musical on Thursday at the same time.

The act of closing the cultural week will be the representation of the act of granting the Poblament Charter in the Plaza de San Jaime. A symbolic representation of how the Benidorm Foundation was and who could be its protagonists and that is run by members of the Associació de Penyes. Within this act, the historian Teresa Orozco will act as maintainer.

Parallel and for the third consecutive year, the commemorative acts of the Poblament Charter are complemented by a medieval market in Elche Park, organized by the Independent Association of Merchants (AICO) in collaboration with the Department of Commerce and Festivities, and It will open on Friday.
