City Hall and AICO agree that it is necessary to join the industrial estate and the urban plot pedestrianly to achieve synergies for both commercial models
Both will try that the Generalitat reconsiders the transfer of the CV-70 and the conversion of the train-tram line that are necessary for the commercial balance
Benidorm City Council and the Independent Association of Traders (AICO) today agreed that it is necessary for the future commercial center of the industrial estate to be linked pedestrian to the urban fabric of the city. This was evident in the first meeting of the working group created by the local administration and AICO to study and implement measures to improve and promote business activity.
The mayor, Toni Pérez, explained that "the mobility and permeability and connection between the future commercial area and the urban fabric have centered the debate of this meeting, especially after putting on the table the position of the Generalitat before two requests made By the City Council, approved in full, and which are key to achieving this pedestrian connection: the conversion of part of the CV-70 into urban road and the TRAV streaming as it passes through Benidorm. "
As it had been previously transferred to the political groups, during the meeting AICO was informed of the refusal of the Generalitat to cede to the City Council the section of the CV-70 that runs through Benidorm, and the decision to postpone until 2023 the conversion of the train-tram line in the city.
City council and traders have agreed that "TRAM is the main physical barrier to overcome to achieve that permeability that simplifies the pedestrian flows between the urban plot and the industrial estate." That is why both will try to make the Generalitat "reconsider its position and reconsider both requests", considering that these actions must be implemented before the opening of the shopping center.
Meanwhile, the local administration is going to work and invest to establish new ways of connection between different neighborhoods of Benidorm and the industrial estate by public transport. In addition to these issues, the meeting also addressed the proposal of AICO to make pedestrian and / or semi-pedestrian some of the main shopping streets to make them more attractive.
