The City Council will invest this year 50,000 euros in improvements in the two cemeteries of the city
The most important action is the repair of a retaining wall in 'Verge del Sofratge' cementery
The department of Cemeteries, directed by the councilwoman Angela Llorca, will invest this year 50,000 euros in improvements and arrangements in the two fields of the city. The most important and urgent action is the repair of a retaining wall in the cemetery 'Verge del Sofratge', which has been displaced and from which several plaques have been detached due to humidity. From the Engineering area the project has been drafted for this action, which proposes the construction of a reinforced concrete wall, saving the unevenness between the two platforms of the cemetery and adapting the adjoining itineraries to be fully accessible.
Llorca and the mayor, Toni Pérez, have visited these days the cemetery 'Sant Jaume' to see the arrangements that have to be made in the premises, mainly in the chapel, where you have to polish the floor to remove the spots that have appeared On the marble, place an ante roof to protect the entrance and repair or replace the wooden doors.
In addition, and through the improvements of some asphalt contract, it is expected to be able to act on several sections of the pavement that are in poor condition. Among the priority sections is that of the street that reaches the new niches, which were built last year and have already begun to be used.
The head of the area said that "with these 176 units we build in 2016 we are assured burial capacity for this year and, most likely, for 2018. That is why it has been decided to invest the budget of 2017 to carry out in both cemeteries works Improvement and repair measures which, in some cases, have been pending for several years and which can not be postponed for further exercise ".
In addition to the repair of the retaining wall, in the cemetery 'Verge del Sofratge' the fuse boxes will be changed and, as far as possible, various works to increase accessibility will be undertaken.
