The City Council takes action against the rainstorm warning for this weekend

16 December 2016
El Ayuntamiento toma medidas ante el aviso de temporal para este fin de semana

Ravines are being checked and marked, parking on Murtal and Racharell avenues is prohibited, and two outdoor sports events are suspended

Benidorm City Council has adopted a series of preventive and security measures in response to the special rainstorm warning on the Mediterranean area launched yesterday by the Center for Emergency Coordination of the Generalitat Valenciana. A storm that is expected to reach the Community this Friday in the form of maritime storm, wind and rain that can reach 150 liters per square meter. The councillor of Public Safety, Lorenzo Martínez, has indicated that "although the ravines have been revised two weeks ago" in anticipation of the possible arrival of rains, during the morning "another revision is being carried out to leave them free of any things that could have been thrown into them. " It has also been established "a guard checkpoint of all dealers" and "we have contacted all the companies that are doing works in Benidorm to be able to dispose of their machinery in case of need." The latter will reinforce the protection of the works to avoid that the wind can drag fences or other elements that can cause damages. Likewise, it has been established the prohibition of parking on the avenues and ravines of El Murtal and Racharell from this noon until 12 noon on Monday. Martínez has reported that all vehicles parked at these points "will be displaced to ensure their safety." In addition, a fencing and special signage has been carried out in the zones of influence of the ravines and in the conflicting points according to the Local Police. The City Council has asked citizens to avoid cliffs or breakwaters during the weekend and refrain from water sports. In fact, the City Council has suspended the 43rd edition of the Nautical Christmas and the race of San Silvestre that had to be run this Sunday.
