Benidorm City Council is completing these days the improvements planned in the CEIP Puig Campana for the start of the new school year, and which are included in the actions that are carried out each summer in the educational centers within the Municipal Maintenance Plan. The mayor, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Education, Maite Moreno, have traveled to the center today to find out the status of these works, which are focusing on improving accessibility and on the cornice of the main building.
Toni Pérez recalled that “among the measures adopted for Puig Campana school to adapt the center to the Covid-19 health guidelines, at the beginning of last year the City Council enabled a new access to the center from Italia Street, thus distributing the entry and exit of students and ensuring safety distances ”. “Now –he explained-, the municipal Technical Services and staff of social collaboration programs have generated a paved access platform to connect this secondary entrance with the school's sports courts, next to which a fully accessible ramp has been created that it connects with the main building ”. At the moment, the handrail is being placed throughout the ramp route.
In addition, "the extension of the section of Bélgica avenue sidewalk in which the school is located has also been completed, thus generating a safe school itinerary and at the same time providing a wider space for the entry and exit of students".
Likewise, "work is being carried out at height on the façade of the school, to renovate the cornice and improve the downspouts, for which the services of a specialized company have been hired."
The mayor has stressed that “the maintenance of the educational centers is constant by the City Council throughout the school year, but every year during the summer we take advantage of the school holidays to intensify this maintenance and carry out more extensive actions or that require heavy machinery that cannot be approached while there is class activity and the minors are in the classrooms ”. "And all this - he added - with the aim that the‘ back to school ’is with the best conditions and facilities for schoolchildren in Benidorm."
