City council, hotel sector and Foreign Office agree to fight against false claims of British tourists

Benidorm City Council, the local hotel sector and the consular corps of the United Kingdom have today agreed on their interest in combating the false claims made by British tourists against establishments in the city. Some fraudulent claims that all appear to be encouraged by British law firms that have found in this practice a vein to do business, and have already started to face the hoteliers, travel agencies and tour operators in the United Kingdom.

To address this issue and propose possible solutions, this morning in the City Hall there have been a meeting with the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Perez; the British consul Sarah-Jane Morris; the president of the hotel management Hosbec, Toni Mayor; The secretary general of this association, Nuria Montes; the manager of Visit Benidorm Foundation, Leire Bilbao; the Councilor for Citizen Security, Lorenzo Martínez; the inspector of the National Police, Juan Carlos Hernández; and the chief of the Local Police, Juan Fuertes, among others.

During the meeting it became clear that the Foreign Office - the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of whom the diplomatic corps depends - is very motivated and involved in the fight against these claims, understanding that all the controversy that has arisen around this bad praxis is damaging the image of British people.

In fact, and as it moved during the meeting, the Foreing Office has raised a petition to the Ministry of Justice of his country to urgently adopt measures to prevent this fraudulent action. In addition, the British Ministry of Foreign Affairs will analyze the possibility of alerting to this possible massive fraud in the campaigns of Safe Tourism that are realized annually, with special emphasis in the airports with a significant traffic of tourists coming from the United Kingdom, as it is the case of Alicante-Elche airport.
