After the government decreed the reactivation of public works, actions are being carried out in areas that are usually very busy so that they are ready at the end of the confinement
The City Council creates a new car park with 200 spaces in Xixo, which will serve Poniente beach
Work has begun on the new roundabout at Bernat de Sarriá-Severo Ochoa junction
Benidorm City Council has created a new car park in the vicinity of the first line of Poniente, specifically in the final section of Xixo Avenue, a space that was previously a plot of land and that at times of maximum occupancy was used as a parking area. In total, this action has allowed the generation of a space with a capacity for 200 vehicles, as explained by the mayor, Toni Pérez, who pointed out that these places add to the "more than 120 that this area will win when the new ones are opened vials of the Unit of Action number 1 West that will connect the Walk with the Vía Parque ”; an opening that is planned shortly.
Toni Pérez has indicated that “thanks to this action, included in the contract for the Asphalt Plan, we are going to give a break to the parking problems in La Cala, and more specifically in the vicinity of the Paseo de Poniente, until the end of the new parking-viewpoint foreseen in the Partial Plan 2/1 Poniente ”.
The mayor recalled that "the City Council is taking advantage of the absence of pedestrians and the significant reduction in traffic derived from the confinement situation to carry out various works and actions, once the Government of Spain has decreed the restart of activities not essential among which works on public roads are included ”.
Among the actions being carried out these days is also the construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Severo Ochoa and Bernat de Sarriá avenues - known as the l'Albir tourist road - which will improve traffic between the Rincon de Loix and La Huerta. This roundabout will replace the current traffic light junction, significantly reducing waiting times, and complements the one already carried out at the 'l'Estanquet' junction, which since its launch "has allowed greater fluidity to traffic in the area, as well as more safety on the bike lane ”.
The mayor explained that in addition to the construction of the roundabout, the action also provides for lighting and the preparation of service and fiber optic pipes.
The construction of both roundabouts is included in the Maintenance and improvement of public roads contract, valued at 700,000 euros and which includes up to 14 actions throughout the city.
