City Council and the Regional Government collaborate so that Benidorm is a pilot project for tourism recovery

Innovation and Tourism and Benidorm City Council promote a working group for tourism recovery after confinement

24 April 2020
Innovación y Turisme y el Ayuntamiento de Benidorm impulsan un grupo de trabajo para la recuperación turística tras el confinamiento

Innovation, a fundamental axis to ensure that the sector adapts to circumstances

Benidorm City Council, the Ministry of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society and Turisme Comunitat Valenciana will promote a joint working group to prepare for the recovery of the tourism sector after confinement.

The Minister of Innovation, Carolina Pascual, theSecretary of Turisme of the Reginal Government, Francesc Colomer, and the Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, held a work meeting by videoconference this Friday, which was also attended by the person in charge of Visit Benidorm, Leire Bilbao, as well as the general director for the Advancement of the Digital Society, Pedro Pernías, and the director of Intelligence Tourism, Mario Villar.

Carolina Pascual has highlighted "the tourism leadership of the city of Benidorm and precisely this sector is the one that is suffering the most from the situation generated by Covid-19", for which she has opted for "collaboration between all to use innovation and technology as an aid to your recovery after confinement. " In addition, the minister has highlighted the effort that the city of Benidorm is making in this regard.

In this sense, the Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, has explained the Patti Recovery project, which "is part of the actions promoted by Benidorm City Council to address the health crisis situation and puts new technologies at the service of citizens and of Administrations ”. This is a project that Benidorm has launched as the first certified DTI in the world and is already conducting tests in the city, the results of which are shared with the Regional Government.

For his part, Francesc Colomer has also reiterated the need to start working on the application of technology and innovation "in order to regain the dynamism of a sector that has been severely damaged by this crisis, and which will probably have difficulties returning to the normality". For this reason, it has influenced that “the launch of a pilot of these characteristics in Benidorm is not accidental, since it is the destination that leads the vanguard of smart tourism in our Region, since it has always known how to reinvent itself and innovate to offer its best version to visitors ”. In this sense, he pointed out that "now the objective is to work to offer security and guarantees, and in that sense in Benidorm we can also be pioneers again".
