More than 1,000 schoolchildren plus their companions gather in the morning
City Council and teachers agree on the entrances to Els Tolls school centres
The use of the park and ride parking on Italia street will allow a more fluid and safe access
The activities on the occasion of the European Mobility Week continue today in Benidorm with the celebration of a day dedicated to safe routes in education and to pedestrian areas.
Early in the morning, just before the opening of the schools, the Councilor for Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate and the person in charge of the Education area, Maite Moreno, have met the directors and teachers of the Centers of Early Childhood and Primary Education (CEIP) Els Tolls and Puig Campana, and with those from Les Fontanelles Municipal Early Childhood Education School. Three centers that serve the popular Els Tolls neighborhood and that bring together thousands of people at peak times when students leave and enter their places of study.
"It is an area - González de Zárate said - where doble parking accumulate at the entrances and exits of schools." Between the three centers, "more than 1,000 students" study. Given the large accumulation at rush hours, the City Council has agreed with the educational community about the modification of road traffic that will affect Bélgica and Municipi avenues.
González de Zárate has advanced that the traffic in Municipi Avenue will be "cut off" so that entry and exit can be carried out from the park and ride parking that the City Council built on Italia street. To do this, new doors have been opened in the back fences of the school grounds and areas have been delimited with concrete. In addition, before December part of the parkings will be asphalted and the sidewalks will be widened, all to "give security to the area" but, above all, to "the children who come walking" and rationalizing and ordering those who come in private vehicles.
Information point in Elche Park
On other matters, this afternoon an information point on the European Mobility Week has been located in the residential area of Parque de Elche. The initiative aims to make known to the public the characteristics of this type of road in which the pedestrian always has the preference.
