The city presents the actions developed to ensure that the tourist experience at the destination is fully inclusive
Benidorm's commitment to accessibility for residents and tourists, an example at Fitur4All
Benidorm has again been set as an example of accessibility and inclusion during the third day of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur).
Specifically, within the framework of Fitur 4All, an initiative that goes hand in hand with Impulsa Igualdad to strengthen quality, diversity and inclusion in the global tourism offer. The city has been one of the destinations selected to present its model in a round table called 'Social sustainability as a transforming axis in tourism', in which the Tourism technician of Benidorm City Council, Virginia Puchades, participated, together with other representatives of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Montevideo and Peru, moderated by the president of the International Social Tourism Organization (ISTO), Isabel Novoa.
In it, the spokesperson for the Department of Tourism has announced the different plans and actions in terms of accessibility that the city has been implementing in recent years to ensure that all people, regardless of their physical, sensory or cognitive abilities, can enjoy tourist experiences at the destination on equal terms, and which cover "all areas of municipal action": from urban planning to the offer of signage adapted to all people at points of tourist interest; the adaptation of buildings and public spaces to people with mobility difficulties; or the wide range of accessible beaches, among many others. Puchades recalled that all of the above allowed Benidorm to receive the award for the Most Accessible National Destination of 2024 at the last edition of Fitur 4All and that in 2025 the city was recognised as a Pioneering European Green Destination for Smart Tourism by the European Commission and has been the first tourist destination certified by AENOR for its Commitment to the Elderly, which "recognises that we are a very sustainable destination in all three areas - environmental, social and economic - and very aware of full accessibility for both residents and tourists".
