Benidorm will have a new approved athletics track in the 2/1 Poniente sector to once again be a reference in sports competitions

Benidorm will have a new large sports infrastructure in the Poniente area, whose construction will begin after the summer and will be completed in the fall of next year. It is a completely homologated athletics track, located in the 2/1 Poniente Partial Plan, and will involve an investment of around five million euros.

This morning, Mayor Toni Pérez presented the future installation and he did so accompanied by members of the corporation, representatives of the TM real estate group -the sector's urban development agent-, local sports clubs and residents of the area. The presentation has taken place next to the future location of the installation.

Pérez has highlighted in the first place that the new track was born "with all the ambition to provide a great service to athletics and those who are going to practice sports", in addition to the objective of "bringing competitions that left Benidorm a long time ago". With this infrastructure, said the mayor, "we will recover the lost reference and we will do it at an incredible level".

The execution will take approximately a year and a half, as specified by the mayor, who also stressed that the installation "is the result of daily urban management and Municipal Land Heritage, which has brilliant returns."

The construction of the athletics track "will not entail a municipal outlay" and its cost will be borne by the developer of the urban sector, the TM real estate group. "The only cost will come at the time of its opening, although that is part of the general services chapter of any sports facility in the city" Pérez specified.

The future infrastructure will be located on a large plot of land for sports facilities in the partial plan, also close to a large public car park that is being built and whose financing follows the same formula. "With all this, we are providing services in this area" added the mayor, who also underlined the "important tourist attraction that the facility will have, the low impact on the environment and the territory and its perfect fit within urban planning".

During the presentation of the facility, which he described as "imposing", the mayor assured that Benidorm "sets an example in the execution of this type of project, so we will meet deadlines to make it available to athletes and users".

The track project is already finished and only "municipal urban procedures" are missing to start the work, a procedure that will be carried out entirely at the municipal headquarters. In that, the mayor has clarified that the beginning of the works will be carried out sense "valuing the moment in which it bothers less", although he has considered that at the end of the summer "heavy work will already be at full capacity".

The project includes space for the recovery of athletes and regular practice, as well as parking and complete accessibility. "It will have the necessary equipment so that sports practice is of the highest level on the track and in the services" Pérez pointed out.

Concerning the current athletics track in Foietes, he has indicated that "it will continue to operate, even though its conditions are not the best". However, both facilities will coexist in time "although the new endowment will assume the leading role of athletics in the city because it is designed for the 'stages' that teams and athletes from all over the world can do since it is located in a privileged enclave".
