Benidorm will have a fully accessible historic center
The work will begin after the Patronals Majors Festivities
The historic center of Benidorm will be “one hundred percent accessible” shortly, thanks to the actions that the City Council will carry out coinciding with the completion of the works on the new Barceló Benidorm Beach hotel (formerly Selomar). This was announced by the acting mayor of Benidorm, José Ramón González de Zárate, in a new edition of 'A pie de Calle' campaign.
González de Zárate, together with the councilors of Urban Scene and Street Cleaning, Francis Muñoz and Luis Navarro, have toured with the vice presidents of the Neighborhood Council, Antonio Zamora, and Francisco Martínez; other neighborhood representatives and municipal technicians, the route between Martínez Alejos avenue and Canalejas square, through Metge Pérez Martorell and Puríssima streets, axes of the action.
The acting mayor recalled that the City Council "completely" renovated Pérez Llorca Street, providing it "with all the services", but the work ceased upon reaching Martínez Alejos, coinciding with the beginning of the restoration of Selomar Hotel which, due to its characteristics “It is a city image change project” that has “affected the historic center with inconvenience and noise, in addition to the proximity of a school. It had to be finished soon and prevent them from overlapping with those of the City Council.” “Once they are about to conclude – he specified – it is up to us.”
The residents have been able to see first-hand what the action that the City Council will carry out will be like, which will involve, in addition to total accessibility, the renewal of “all underground stormwater, drinking water and sewage services, electrical wiring and the creation of the single platform at the top.”
González de Zárate specified that “we have managed to get the construction company of the new hotel to collaborate with us, which will assume part of the costs of the project, which is currently being assessed by the municipal technical services. “One more example of the collaboration of local administration and private initiative for the benefit of all.” The work will begin once the Festes Majors Patronals end, so that "we can enjoy them in all their intensity without the inevitable inconveniences that any work entails."
Una intervención necesaria
Por su parte, Francis Muñoz, ha reiterado la “apuesta” por la accesibilidad universal de Benidorm y “sobre todo en entornos tan importantes” como el casco antiguo.
“Una ciudad –ha señalado- que se adapta a sus vecinos y a quienes la visitan. El edil ha adelantado que, para ello “todo el casco antiguo tendrá plataforma única”.
Muñoz ha recordado que esta es una intervención “muy necesaria” sobre unos servicios que denotan “obsolescencia”, lo que obliga a su renovación y a intentar “mejorar el ornato público, y la accesibilidad por supuesto”. Con intervenciones como esta “se construye la ciudad del futuro”. El concejal ha reafirmado el compromiso de todo el equipo de gobierno municipal en seguir trabajando para que la “accesibilidad total” sea “enseña” de todos y cada uno de los barrios de Benidorm.
