This week work began to increase the number of storm drains on both sides of the roadway

Benidorm will expand its rainwater collection capacity in Juan Fuster Zaragoza Avenue, to prevent water from stagnating in the streets

Benidorm ampliará la capacidad de recogida de aguas pluviales en Juan Fuster Zaragoza para evitar que se estanque el agua en la calle

Benidorm began work this week to expand the rainwater collection capacity on Juan Fuster Zaragoza Street in the Rincón de Loix district, with the aim of mitigating, as much as possible, the stagnant water in the middle of the street during rainy seasons.

The work will last approximately two weeks, according to José Ramón González de Zárate, Councilor for Water Cycle, "so they will be completed before Easter."

The councillor explained that it is a request from several neighbourhood associations on this street, who asked the City Council to "explore a solution to eliminate the stagnant water in the valley that exists in the street in the area where it meets the Barceló ravine channel." This excess water, which is inevitable when the ravine exceeds the capacity of the channel and spills onto the road, can be avoided when the ravine's capacity is at 60 or 70%.

The accumulation of water on the surface causes problems for people and vehicles entering or exiting private parking lots. "What we're going to do is increase the number of drains in that section to collect as much water as possible and have it go directly to the collector, thus increasing the capacity to collect rainwater," stated González de Zárate.

If there are no setbacks, the work was expected to begin this week, which is what happened, so that it would be completed in a few days as it is not a major project, according to the councillor during a visit to the area with technicians from Hidraqua, the concessionaire of the Water Cycle, which will be responsible for carrying out these works. "It's a good decision, and once again we demonstrate that we listen to the residents and address their requests," the councillor concluded.
