Users of the Retirement Home and the Senior Center will have cultivation plots, a complementary activity to their treatments
Benidorm will create new ecological urban gardens next to Foietes Park
Benidorm City Council will create a new area of ecological urban gardens next to the Retirement House and Senior Center, next to Foietes Park. This has announced today by the councilor for Citizen Participation, Ana Pellicer, after the meeting held with representatives of the Neighborhood Association of Av. Nicaragua y Adyacentes (AVANA), the Neighborhood Council, and with the councilor for Works, Public Space and Street Cleaning, José Ramón González de Zárate. The initiative responds to a request made by the neighborhood associations of Colonia Madrid district.
This morning has taken place the second meeting with AVANA representatives. In it, González de Zárate and Pellicer, have detailed the actions carried out in the neighborhood after requests from neighbors, essentially repair and installation of urban furniture, broken tiles and cleaning of public roads. The councilors have also transferred to the assistants the steps taken by the City Council before the Regional Administration to solve the problem with discretionary bus transport that affects the neighborhood.
Ana Pellicer has confirmed the importance of the meetings that are held every Thursday with the associations, in their neighborhoods, together with the Neighborhood Council because "they are the same neighbors who send us their proposals." For this reason, he has encouraged all those interested in improving the quality of life in the city to participate in these tours and has specified that "small actions" are what make "Benidorm a better city" thanks "to the collaboration from neighbors, associations and the Neighborhood Council ”.
Urban gardens
For its part, the Councilor for the Environment, Mónica Gómez, has clarified that the space that will be used for orchards is "much larger, more complete and with a lot of shade" compared to those that are in production. The plot, located in the upper part of Foietes, will be offered to the associations and registered in Benidorm, "will complement the treatments" received by users of the residence, as entertainment or an exercise that helps them stay in shape.
Gómez recalled that Benidorm already has two areas with urban gardens on Italia street and La Cala, next to 'Pepita Esperanza' Social Center. The latter, like the one now being projected, responded to a request made by the neighborhood associations of La Cala.
