Equality remembers that 016 attends victims of gender violence 24 hours a day

Benidorm condemns strongly a new sexist crime

12 March 2020
Benidorm condena enérgicamente un nuevo crimen machista

For the second time so far this week, Benidorm has today condemned a new sexist crime, which brings to 16 the number of women murdered by their partners or former partners so far this year in Spain. The mayor, Toni Pérez; the councilor for Equality, Angela Zaragozí; members of the Corporation; municipal workers; and neighbors have kept a minute of silence at the gates of the City Hall to show their rejection of this social scourge, which since 2003 has claimed the lives of 1,049 women.

On this occasion, a 60-year-old man has ended the life of his 54-year-old wife and their 24-year-old daughter, whom he allegedly cut the throat of at his home, located in the Biscayan town of Abanto-Zierbena.

From the Department of Equality of the Benidorm City Council they have recalled that the telephone number 016 attends to all victims of male violence 24 hours a day, in 52 languages. It does not leave a trace on the telephone bill but it is advisable to delete it from the call log of mobile phones. In addition, the Department makes available to women who feel threatened all municipal public services and specialized personnel.
