These actions are added to the intervention on Capitán Cortés street, with a budget of 400,000 euros, which will be completed before the summer
Benidorm will complete four works to improve hydraulic infrastructure before Easter, with an investment of one million euros

Benidorm City Council, through the Water Cycle Department, has five major hydraulic projects underway to renovate and improve existing infrastructures, install new networks and avoid recurring problems that occurred at specific times. Four of these projects will be completed before Easter and amount to an investment of one million euros. The last project is finished before the summer and has a budget of 400,000 euros. Thus, the overall investment in these works amounts to 1.4 million euros.
The Councillor for the Water Cycle, José Ramón González de Zárate, has visited all the projects that are being developed to confirm that they are all progressing at a good pace and that they will be completed within the planned time frame and that, therefore, they will not cause inconvenience to visitors to the city during peak periods.
The first of these is the one being carried out on Avenida Montecarlo, in the section between Calle París and Calle Roma. With a budget of 306,340 euros, the work consists of the renovation of the drinking water infrastructure, the stormwater network, the sewerage system and the creation of a regenerated water network.
This is the first phase of work on this avenue. Once finished, the tender and award of the section between Roma and Berlín streets will take place.
González de Zárate has highlighted that this avenue will have a regenerated water network “that can be used to irrigate gardens or common areas so that costs are reduced and the consumption of clean water is reduced, which can then be used for other purposes”. In addition, the renovation of trees and lighting is included.
On Ibiza Street, in the section between Europa Avenue and Esperanto Street, work is also being done “to renovate the sewerage system and prepare the street for different services, as well as incorporating a rainwater collection network that did not exist” the councillor has pointed out. This work involves an investment of 400,000 euros and will also include a network of reused water and “the improvement of the entire urban scene on the surface with new sidewalks and pavement since the entire width of the street is being raised.”
In Elche Park, a new pumping system is being installed to pump rainwater from the streets of Almendros or Maravall which flows into José Such and the park itself. In this case, the investment is 130,000 euros and “will alleviate the problems that sometimes occur in the wastewater pumping system when there is an accumulation of water from Maravall and Almendros. The work solves two problems; on the one hand, it ends the traffic cuts in Alcalde José Such and, on the other, it improves the pumping of wastewater in the Elche Park” said González de Zárate.
The other project that will be completed before Easter is being carried out on Avenida Armada Española, at its confluence with Jaime I. There, the sewage collector is being adapted to improve the hydraulic and pumping capacity towards the treatment plant. With an investment of 162,535 euros, the pumping line towards Benidorm from the Wastewater Pumping Station (EBAR) in Cala de Finestrat is being renewed. “It is necessary to provide more capacity to the sewage network because we also have to collect wastewater from Finestrat from the La Cala area, which we have to pump towards the La Vila Joiosa treatment plant, but also towards our own” specified the councillor.
All these actions will be finished with improvements in the urban scene since they affect the paving, landscaping and trees and they are also being used to undertake actions to improve accessibility.
Captain Cortes Street renewal
The only work that will not be completed by Easter is the one being carried out on Calle Capitán Cortés. This work has recently begun and has a four-month execution period and a budget of 400,000 euros. This is “very necessary” work after it was found that the sanitation infrastructure “is very deteriorated, since its first installation dates back more than 30 years”, explained the councillor for the Water Cycle.
These works complement those carried out and included in the EDUSI with the renewal of the stormwater network in Colonia Madrid district and part of Capitán Cortés Street. “Now we are finishing the stormwater network and also the sewerage system of an important area” specified the councillor, who reiterated that the urban scene will be improved and new trees will be planted.
