Benidorm Union Musical band pays tribute to its directors with a concert at l’Hort de Colón square
Last night, Benidorm Unión Musical band offered a concert whose first part served as a tribute to several of the entity's directors. The event, framed within the entity's centenary, is also included in the series of concerts organised this year by the Federation of Musical Societies of the Valencian Community (FSMCV) under the title 'Son música, som patrimoni'. Yesterday's recital, in front of l'Hort de Colón, was attended by the mayor of the city, Toni Pérez; the Councillor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, and several members of the local corporation.
This cycle of 25 concerts will run from July 11 to October 9, with recitals in the three provinces. Precisely the one in Benidorm last night was the inaugural concert and is held at a significant moment for the Valencian musical movement, since the candidacy of the musical societies for its declaration as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO has already been presented to the Regional Government, a fundamental step towards its projection and international recognition.
The program began with a tribute to the directors of the UMB. Thus, in the first part, the works 'Pérez Barceló' by Bernabé Sanchís Porta; 'Jaume Antón' by Salvador Chuliá; 'Jaime Jesús Pérez Llinares' by Rafael Gómez Parra; and 'Mari Carmen García' by Rafael Gómez Parra were performed. By the way, the first piece was performed under the baton of Vicente Pérez, son of José Pérez Barceló.
The second part of the recital featured the interpretation of the works 'Paconchita', by Óscar Navarro González; ‘West Side Story Symphonic Dances’, by Leonard Bernstein; and 'Danzón number 2', by Arturo Márquez. The concert, with more than three hundred attendees, was directed by Rafa Gómez Parra.
