Benidorm undertakes resurfacing work on several streets to improve road safety

Benidorm City Council, through its Department of Urban Scene, is currently carrying out road resurfacing works on several streets across the city to repair damaged road surfaces and improve road safety and traffic flow.

Councillor for Urban Scene Francis Muñoz explained that the works "are being carried out on streets and carriageways across the municipality that are in poor condition, where the road surface has deteriorated or suffered damage that makes driving uncomfortable and unsafe."

On Monday night, resurfacing works were completed on the access road to Camí del Llandero, while last night works were carried out on Juan Llorca Street. This intervention had originally been scheduled for the end of January but was postponed due to utility works undertaken by Iberdrola. Finally, tonight the junction of La Cala Street and Vicente Llorca Alós Street will be resurfaced to eliminate several potholes affecting the carriageway.

These works form part of the 2025 Road Resurfacing Programme, which began earlier this year and is being implemented in several phases depending on the time of year and the impact of other ongoing works. The programme will continue in September, once the peak tourist season has ended, with the resurfacing of Ruzafa Street between Venus Street and Hondo Street. Works will also be carried out at the intersection of Venus Street and Mars Street.

In addition to these interventions, resurfacing has already been completed this year on L'Aigüera Avenue and on Paraguay, Vigo and La Cala streets. The resurfacing contract was awarded to Pavasal for €356,967.27 and, once completed, will have covered a total area of 24,000 square metres.

Francis Muñoz stressed that "the implementation of this programme continues the road resurfacing plans already carried out in previous years." The Councillor for Public Space also pointed out that road deterioration is typically caused by the breakdown of the road surface, the appearance of potholes and cracking, "all of which have a significant impact on vehicle traffic."

According to Muñoz, these defects are generally caused by a variety of factors, including heavy vehicle traffic, the age and quality of the road surface, and damage resulting from torrential rainfall, among others. He added that the City Council undertakes resurfacing works every year "according to needs, budget availability, the condition and importance of the roads concerned, and their impact on traffic."

Muñoz also noted that all the planned and completed works are located entirely on publicly owned land, meaning that full access to the sites has been guaranteed. Finally, the councillor apologised to residents and drivers for any inconvenience caused during the works, adding that "these temporary disruptions are necessary to improve road safety and prevent damage and accidents."
