The used asphalt absorbs noise to reduce noise pollution caused by traffic

Benidorm takes advantage of Beniardá's asphalting to introduce new traffic changes and the bike lane

14 January 2019
Benidorm aprovecha el reasfaltado de Beniardá para introducir nuevos giros de tráfico y el carril-bici

Benidorm City Council will take advantage of the resurfacing and repainting of the horizontal signage of Beniará Avenue to introduce new circulatory circuits claimed by the public that will improve road safety, as well as to implement the bike lane along the center of the road following the model already operating in other routes such as Jaime I or Alfonso Puchades and those that will continue.

The mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, has indicated that the intention of the City Council is "to convert Beniardá avenue in a commercial boulevard of quiet traffic" - following what is set at the table of which the City Council and AICO are part - and with less sound conditions due to the transit of vehicles, something that will contribute "the use of a new asphalting material that reduces noise pollution and that will undoubtedly improve the day to day of all those who reside or transit through this via. "

Pérez pointed out that between yesterday afternoon and early morning "the pavement renovation has been carried out" on the avenue's up-lane from El Cruce to the TRAM highway, which "was already open to traffic this morning." Tonight we will proceed to paint the horizontal marking of this lane and the resurfacing of the other.

The mayor has indicated that this resurfacing is "a work with a lot of complexity because we want to act by reducing to the minimum possible the impact on the road traffic of entrance and exit of Benidorm along Beniardá Avenue". Hence, the resurfacing and repainting of horizontal signage is carried out at night, concentrated in three days.

On the improvements introduced in the traffic, the turn is going to be enabled from the downhill lane of Beniardá avenue to Orxeta street, which at the moment could only be accessed from the up lane. In this way the vehicles that circulate along the avenue towards El Cruce will be able to follow this direction, turn right to reach Alcalá street, or turn left to access Orxeta street. These turns will be regulated by a traffic light. In addition, in the descent direction, a specific lane will be enabled to make the turn onto Sella Street.

In addition, it is expected that, based on the provisions of the Road Safety Plan, new changes and improvements will be introduced in the coming months.

Plan Asphalt 2018

This action on Beniardá Avenue is one of the improvements obtained by the City Council within the contract of 'Asphalt Plan 2018', valued at 500,000 euros and with which the pavement of around twenty streets in the city has been renewed.

As the mayor said a few days ago "aware of the results showed by the Acoustic Map commissioned by the City Council, municipal technicians have opted to use asphalt sono-reducer in the Beniardá avenue to mitigate the noise that occurs in this way, the main access to Benidorm from the region and the one that registers the highest traffic ".

The 'Asphalted Plan 2018' has reached a large part of the city's neighborhoods. Thus, La Cala has been acted in the streets : Pajares, Avilés and Asturias; in Colonia Madrid there has been intervention in Florida, Beniardá and Orxeta streets; while in Els Tolls the streets Municipi, Finlandia, Islandia, Bélgica, Portugal and Francia have been resurfaced. In the downtown area, the works have been located on l'Aigüera Avenue, the upper part of Almendros Street, Jupiter and Marqués de Comillas streets, as well as several roads adjacent to it; and in Salt de l'Aigua area, in the parking in front of the bus station and in the parking of the Official School of Languages (EOI).

Apart from the asphalting of Beniardá Avenue, the City Council has recently acted in the area with the adaptation of the park and ride next to the TRAM station - with capacity for 1,000 vehicles - and within the Universal Accessibility Plan it is planed to do so in the section that links this road with the first roundabout of the CV-70.
