Both actions will involve a total investment of more than 2.6 million euros
Benidorm starts on Monday EDUSI works in Els Tolls and the upper part of Foietes
The projects contemplate the improvement of the urban scene, accessibility and the renewal of all basic services
On Monday, October 25, the first works of the Sustainable and Integrative Development Strategy (EDUSI) will begin in Benidorm. It concerns the Improvement of pedestrian mobility and accessibility action in Els Tolls neighborhood and the Improvement and Accessibility work in the Foietes area.
The first of them was awarded for a budget of 2,077,976.65 euros, while the second will involve an investment of 556,139.86 euros.
The Councilor for Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate, has specified with respect to the performance in Els Tolls that it will begin on Portugal Street and that the works will affect other roads such as Inglaterra Street, Austria and Andalucía Avenue. "Drinking water pipes, sewerage, public lighting will be changed and the entire urban scene will be improved, as well as accessibility," he indicated. In the same way, the works foresee the extension of sidewalks in some points "because they do not provide the measure for complete accessibility."
The work will involve the renewal of the rainwater collection system, so that it will be "ready" to link it at the time the work begins on Emilio Ortuño road "with the roundabout of Alfonso Puchades and from there tol 'Aigüera ravine'.
The project encompasses all the existing space between Andalucáa, Francia, Inglaterra and Italia avenues and plans to maintain the existing trees, gain pedestrian space and reduce the danger of crossings located in this area. "We won in road safety, comfort, pedestrian space, image and services in a residential neighborhood in which there are also various public services and also high-traffic school areas," added González de Zárate.
As for the project for the upper area of Foietes, it is valued at 556,139.86 euros and includes the area among Estació, Capitán Cortés, Rejoneador Ginés Cartagena - where the work will begin - and Plaza del Prelado Antonio Bayona. "It is an area with a significant volume of residents and pedestrian traffic due to the proximity of three schools and the Sports City 'Guillermo Amor'" stressed the councilor, who recalled that "to date there had been no major renovation interventions the urban scene ”.
The work provides, broadly speaking, to increase the size of the sidewalks between 50 centimeters and one meter depending on the section, reducing the width of the road on the three streets and thus adapting the pedestrian areas to the accessibility regulations. The pavement and lighting will also be renewed, and all water and telecommunications services will be channeled.
The "most emblematic" work will be held at Plaza del Prelado Antonio Bayona, which "will be completely renovated following the model of Polop street and making access to homes fully accessible, generating more pedestrian space and green and shady areas" .
The EDUSI of Benidorm obtained a grant from European funds of 10 million euros. It includes actions for an amount of 23 million, all focused on improving the quality of life of Benidormenses through the improvement of access to information technologies (ICT), the reduction of CO2 emissions, the protection of the environment and the fight against inequality and poverty through inclusion policies ”. "It is a great city project," stressed the councilor.
In addition to the works that will begin on Monday, the procedures for two other large-scale projects have also begun, such as the construction of a youth hostel, a camping area and an interpretation center in the Parque de la Séquia Mare, and the rehabilitation of the bullring and the creation of new cultural and social spaces in its environment, "which is the most iconic work of all those collected in EDUSI and that due to its size will require a longer execution time", concluded González de Zárate.
