The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and Finestrat, Juan Francisco Pérez, have signed the agreement that makes it possible, if necessary, to treat in the water treatment plants of the tourist capital part of the water that the municipality of Finestrat receives from the Water Consortium of the Marina Baixa.
This agreement, approved in full by both municipalities, establishes that the flows destined to supply La Cala de Finestrat, to the commercial and industrial zone and to the urbanizations of the surroundings of Sierra Cortina will receive a previous treatment at moments in which these present high levels turbidity, something that usually occurs in case of episodes of heavy rains.
The mayors of both municipalities stressed that this agreement "demonstrates the principle of solidarity that prevails in the Marina Baixa in terms of water management," and that "seeks to ensure that the service and water resources received by the residents are the best quality".
Finestrat is the only municipality in the region that can resort to the water treatment plants of Benidorm thanks to an investment made by the Provincial Council of Alicante and that has allowed to connect its distribution network to the city. According to the terms of the agreement, Finestrat will receive this treatment as another user and will pay based on the volume of treated water.
