Benidorm signals the safe school routes to reach the educational centers
Benidorm City Council has marked the safe school routes to the educational centers of the city, as reported today by the acting councilors for Public Space and Education, José Ramón González de Zárate and Maite Moreno. In total, 19 signs have been placed in the vicinity of the thirteen public schools in Benidorm and they have opted for "a model that recreates a pencil so that it is visually attractive for the little ones, who is precisely the ones this information is aimed at.".
De Zárate explained that "in recent years, the City Council has made a significant investment effort to improve pedestrian safety in the surroundings of Benidorm's educational centers, generating wider sidewalks, expanding access to schools, and limiting the speed of the adjoining roads.
Thus, he recalled that "some of these actions to generate safe school routes have been carried out as part of the large improvement and comprehensive renovation projects in the Els Tolls neighborhood or the upper part of Foietes, both financed by the EDUSI; within pedestrianization projects such as Tomás Ortuño street or urban improvement works such as those carried out in Rincón de Loix”.
In other cases, however, "these school routes are the result of specific projects to improve road safety and create safe school routes." This is the case of the successive actions carried out around Avenida Venezuela and Ricardo Bayona, where a new roundabout has been created and sidewalks have been widened; in the vicinity of the Els Tolls school complex; or like those that have been carried out in the Salt de l'Aigua school complex, where work has also been done on the sidewalks and all traffic has been rearranged, opening new roads.
