This year the awards have been for the UK issuing market in the UK, for the Dinapsis center, for the 'LDV Disrupters' project, and for comedian and presenter Andreu Buenafuente.

The mayor, Toni Pérez, has presided over the awards ceremony, which was held in the Assembly Hall of the City Council, and attended by the UK consul in Alicante, Sarah-Jane Morris; the provincial deputy of Water, Francisco Saez; the president of the hotel management Hosbec, Toni Mayor; the manager of the Visit Benidorm Foundation, Leire Bilbao; as well as representatives of the tourism sector and the different groups of the municipal corporation.

Pérez explained that with the delivery of these awards, the events scheduled for the International Tourism Day, dedicated this year to Sustainable Tourism as a development tool. In his speech, he has claimed "the role of Benidorm as one of the most sustainable destinations in the world", from its opening to tourism to the present.

The UK consul in Alicante has collected the 2017 Tourism Award in international category, with which Benidorm has wanted to recognize the importance of this tourist market, which is "83% of annual overnight stays by foreign tourists and 45% of the totals, "as the mayor recalled, that beyond the numbers he valued" the fidelity "of the British to the destination.

Morris has pointed out that "there are very few" destinations that "can enjoy this degree of fidelity" tourism even of several generations, and added that thanks to the treatment received here his compatriots "feel part of the social fabric" of Benidorm

In the national category, the award has been for Dinapsis, the reference center for research and innovation based in Benidorm and linked to Hidraqua and Grupo Suez. The mayor stressed that Dinapsis "is called to become a center of reference nationally and internationally," and thanked those responsible for having chosen Benidorm as the site of the first space of these characteristics. For its part, the manager of Hydraqua in Benidorm, Javier Diez, has indicated that in the first months of activity, Dinapsis is already "a reference in water management, environmental issues and smart cities", and has deepened that the purpose of the solutions which is studied there is "improving the quality of life of citizens"

In the local-autonomous category, the award went to the 'LDV Disrupters' project, aimed at companies and public administrations implementing measures against tourism of excesses and in favor of healthy experiences. Promoted by the international school Lope de Vega in Benidorm, more than a hundred young people from different institutes of the province participated, including L'Almadrava, IES Mediterrania, Bernat de Sarrià and Beautriu Fajardo de Mendoza.

Áurea González, director of the Lope de Vega school, has collected the prize along with several of the students who wrote the project and teachers who have tutored the same. The teacher thanked "the sensibility" when it comes to recognizing the work of these young people and hearing their voice when "they tell us that there are perceptions of them, and their way of life and fun that can be changed." The mayor has extolled the decision of these students and the fact that they have proposed "healthy leisure alternatives related to the healthy emotions that are lived in adolescence."
