The City Council attends the call for EMPUJU program, with a proposal to employ 20 young people in care and maintenance work
Benidorm requests a subsidy of 317,000 euros to hire unemployed young people under 30 years of age
Benidorm City Council has requested a subsidy of 317,244.48 euros to hire 20 unemployed young people under 30 years of age for twelve months. The Councilor for Employment and Local Development, Mónica Gómez, has indicated that “we are attending a new call for the EMPUJU program financed with European funds and launched by the Ministry of Sustainable Economy, Productive Sectors, Commerce and Labor under the plan 'Avalem Joves + 'within the National Youth Guarantee System ”.
Gómez has clarified that “in previous years, this program has been accompanied by EMCUJU, a plan along the same lines but aimed exclusively at qualified young people. However, on this occasion the call of the Ministry has only contemplated the first program and hence the requested subsidy is lower than that of the two previous years ".
The councillor has indicated that "attending to the needs communicated by different municipal departments compared with the Human Resources area, the municipal proposal is to hire 20 young people to carry out tasks of customer service and maintenance of municipal facilities." Gómez has detailed that "this is the same number of people that we currently have hired under the 2019/2020 edition of the program."
In 2019, the City Council received 610,000 euros of European funds for the EMCUJU and EMPUJU programs - half of the amount requested. In 2018, however, the Ministry granted 100% of what was requested: 1.9 million euros.
Gómez recalled that "in addition to participating in this call, we have also requested a subsidy of about 700,000 euros to hire 60 unemployed people from 30 years of age to meet needs derived from Covid-19 for a period of six months" in the framework of ECOVID2020 program, proposed by LABORA in coordination with the Valencian Agency for Security and Emergency Response (AVSRE) and financed through the European Social Fund. With both programs, "we would cover all age ranges and attend to employment needs both among the young population and among those over 30 years old."
In both cases, "we have to wait for the resolution of the Ministry to know the amount they grant us for each program, which will determine the final number of people we can hire." The prevision is to launch both programs by the end of the year.
