Benidorm renew the Green Flag for exceeding the collection figures for glass containers
323 hospitality establishments have participated in this action that promotes sustainability and the circular economy
Benidorm has renewed again this year the Green Flag awarded every year by Ecovidrio which rewards the efforts of the local hospitality industry and the town councils with the recycling of glass containers and the fight against climate change. This is what this non-profit entity in charge of managing the recycling of glass containers has communicated to Benidorm City Council, after verifying that the city increased during June, July and August the total volume of collection of glass containers for recycling. recycling.
The city already won this award in 2021 and 2022, so now it has won it for the third consecutive time. Obtaining the recognition is due, according to Ecovidrio, to the teamwork of the council, the citizens, and the hoteliers, which has allowed Benidorm to “take a step further in the transition towards the circular economy and the fight against climate change”, in addition to having become “an example of the green recovery of the hospitality industry”.
In total, 323 hotel establishments in the city have participated, contributing their grain of sand in this fourth edition of the #GreenFlagsMovement. Thus, according to Ecovidrio data, Benidorm collected 1,126,648 kilos of glass in June, July, and August, which represents an increase of 8.49% compared to the same period in 2022. The recycling of these glass containers has allowed the town to obtain a score of 1,228 points and be among the four municipalities in the Valencian Community that have achieved the Green Flag in 2023 and one of the two that renew it.
