Benidorm reconoce el esfuerzo del alumnado que ha participado este verano en el Programa de Apoyo Educativo

Benidorm City Council has recognised the efforts made this summer by the city's 70 primary school students who participated in the Summer Educational Support Program (SESP) during July and August. This program is organised by the Department of Education to provide academic support to these children and their families for the next school year. All of them received their diplomas at a ceremony held at the Diego Cano Enguera Fester Centre, attended by Benidorm Mayor Toni Pérez, Councillor for Education Maite Moreno, municipal teachers, parents and other family members of these children.

The PAEV, which ran from July 3 to August 26, is a service offered by the City Council to Benidorm families during the summer holidays. It is aimed at children between the ages of 6 and 12 who did not achieve the expected academic results last year or who have difficulty mastering Spanish or studying. Once again, the service was held in the classrooms of the Leonor Canalejas public school, where throughout the summer, these children received classes in various subjects, such as Mathematics, Spanish, Valencian, and English, and worked on study techniques, as well as attention-defining games and verbal and mathematical reasoning, to improve their performance for the new academic year.

After a joint congratulations to all the students and their families from one of the teachers in charge of the program, Mayor Toni Pérez took the floor to thank the PAEV educational team for their commitment to "facilitating access to educational resources for those who need it most." He also praised the commitment of all these children who, thanks to the PAEV, "will face the next school year in better conditions."

The mayor also noted that during July and August, "thousands of Benidorm children have participated in various activities" organised by the City Council to facilitate work-life balance and by other organisations. However, he also told the children that "one of the most important activities is what you have done, studying and learning to become a little better every day."

Finally, she also thanked the families for their "vision and trust in the PAEV," emphasizing that "when summer arrives, there are sometimes very attractive activities, but you choose this program because you know it's a great resource for our sons and daughters, a great help in balancing work and family life, but above all, in helping them address any educational needs they may have and, thus, continue to improve year after year."

During the event, students, families, and municipal representatives also gave a resounding round of applause to Mercedes, one of the municipal employees who has been part of this program since its inception and who will soon be retiring.

Through this program, students in grades one through six have been able to correct the educational shortcomings identified and prepare to achieve the goals set for the following year. The Councillor for Education, Maite Moreno, noted that to facilitate family access to this program, reduced prices have been established for large families, single-parent families, families with disabilities, foster families, or families with parents or guardians holding the Youth Card, retirees, or pensioners. Furthermore, the program has been completely free for large families or special single-parent families, as well as for families with individuals with disabilities exceeding 33%.

In addition, the City Council has provided 100% PAEV attendance grants to a total of seven minors whose families requested this assistance, thus fulfilling all applications processed.

The activities took place from Monday to Friday, in two daily shifts, depending on age groups. Thus, the first shift, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., was attended by students in grades 2, 4, and 6 of Primary School; While from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., it was the turn of students in 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades, reinforcing curricular subjects and learning study and concentration techniques, as well as other games and skills to improve their academic performance.
