Benidorm presents the Goya for Best Animated Short Film of 2020 in the Skyline Film Festival

Benidorm expone el Goya al Mejor Cortometraje de Animación de 2020 dentro del Skyline Film Festival

This Saturday the contest celebrates the closing gala and the awards ceremony for the best short films in the competition sections.

The exhibition 'Paco Sáez, 30 years drawing stories', which is shown in the Espai d'Art of Benidorm City Council within the programming of the Skyline Film Festival, has a new attraction from today: the Goya awarded by the Academy of Cinema to 'Madrid 2120' as Best Animated Short Film of 2020.

The work is directed by José Luis Quirós and Paco Sáez, who wanted to contribute what is popularly known as 'cabezón' "so that it can be seen up close and enjoyed by the public. “People like having it in front of them, being able to pick it up or see all the details,” the illustrator stated. “And for me, it is an honour to bring it to a festival like this, where cinema is in the air,” he added.

The Councilor for Culture of the Benidorm City Council, Jaime Jesús Pérez, has been one of the first to be able to contemplate this award along with Saéz himself; the director of the Skyline Film Festival, Bea Hernández; and the curator of the exhibition, Carlos Chardí. Likewise, the councillor has stated that the exhibition with drawings and illustrations by Paco Sáez "is being widely visited and the public is very much liking it", so he does not doubt that this Goya will add another attraction to it.

Jaime Jesús Pérez has highlighted that the public interested in seeing this figure live will be able to do so this afternoon, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Espai d'Art of the Benidorm City Council, where they will also be able to enjoy the Paco Sáez exhibition.

For her part, the director of the contest has pointed out that the possibility of being able to show this Goya also links with the election, one more year, by the Board of Directors of the Spanish Film Academy of the Skyline Benidorm Film Festival as a qualifying festival, which means that the winning short films in the National Official Section will have direct access to registration for next year's Goya Awards. Likewise, Bea Hernández recalled that, in the case of the rest of those selected as finalists, they also have the possibility of opting for it.

After a week full of activities, workshops and screenings, the eighth edition of the Skyline Benidorm Film Festival is now drawing to a close, with the last screenings that will take place this afternoon of the short films competing in the Official Section and for which, as in For the rest of the days of the event, the 'no tickets' sign has been posted again.

Tomorrow, Saturday, the City Hall Assembly Hall will host the closing gala and the awards ceremony for the best short films competing in the different sections of this edition. In addition to the 26 short films that participate as finalists in the Official Section, awards will be given to the best European, and Ibero-American short films, the best Screenplay and the one signed by Young Directors.
