To date, the City Council has delivered 1,039 cards and another 531 are in process

This wallet card is delivered with an initial charge of 10 euros for public transport, but new uses and services will be incorporated.

Benidorm City Council opens next Monday, September 12, a new phase of delivery of the 'Citizen Card', in this case for people over 50 years of age registered in the municipality. The Councilor for Citizenship Participation, Ana Pellicer, has reported that "from that day on, all residents of that age range who wish to do so can go to the General Registry of the City Council and request this wallet card, which is delivered with an initial charge of 10 euros that can be consumed on the urban bus and to which new uses and municipal services will be incorporated later”.

Pellicer explained that "just as we advanced in its day, the process of requesting and delivering this 'Citizen Card' is being carried out progressively among the population registered by age groups". Thus, it began "by people who were already users of the 'Gold Bonus' of the urban bus, who had their 'Citizen Card' issued ex officio, to then open the application to people over 65 years of age".

“Now, and once we have seen how the demand is working, we are starting the third phase, aimed at people over 50 years of age, and we will gradually open the 'Citizen Card' to the rest of the Benidorm population entitled to it, which are all the neighbours over 3 years of age”, he specified.

According to the figures transferred by the mayor, "to date, in less than a month, there are already 1,039 people who have the 'Citizen Card' in their hands, to which another 531 are added, all of them over 65 years of age, that they have requested it and that they will receive it in the coming days or weeks.”

Pellicer recalled that "all of them have an initial balance of 10 euros on their 'Citizen Card' to consume on the urban bus and once that amount is used up they can top it up and continue using this transport under advantageous conditions, with discounts ranging from 10% and 66% depending on the type of user: General, School, Social, Young or Gold”.

Registered persons over 50 years of age who wish to obtain the 'Citizen Card' in this new phase must request its issuance. To do this, they must go to the General Registry of the City Council, on the ground floor of the town hall, with a photograph and ID and they will only have to fill out a form.

Two weeks later they will be notified to pick up their wallet card. This face-to-face service is provided in Spanish, English, Russian and French. It is planned that in the near future a web space will be enabled so that people who wish to can apply for their 'Citizen Card' electronically.

Next week, in addition, it is expected that the beneficiary students of the Municipal School Voucher will receive their 'Citizen Card' from the company Grupo Avanza, following the same procedure that has been done so far for the delivery of the voucher at the beginning of the course.

The Councilor for Citizen Participation recalled that the creation of this card "has a double objective: to modernize the services provided to the registered population, and to encourage and promote the use of public transport by offering advantageous conditions." In fact, this 'Citizen Card' is one of the measures contemplated in the 'Benidorm + Cerca' program, for which the City Council has received a subsidy of 1.1 million from the Ministry of Mobility, Transport and Urban Agenda.

The issuance of the card is free; while the renewal of the same in case of loss, deterioration or theft will cost 4 euros.
