Benidorm joins forces with Anémona once again to support the fight against breast cancer
The city has placed a pink ribbon in the gardens outside City Hall to mark World Breast Cancer Day, and this Sunday it will host the 24th Solidarity March
The gardens outside Benidorm City Hall have featured a large pink ribbon since Thursday, symbolising the city’s support for people affected by breast cancer and their families, as well as research projects aimed at combating the disease. Mayor Toni Pérez, Councillor for Equality Ángela Zaragozí and other members of the Municipal Corporation took part in the unveiling of the commemorative ribbon today, alongside numerous members of Anémona, the Marina Baixa Self-Help Group for Women with Breast and Gynaecological Cancer, led by its president, María Botella.
This is one of several events taking place in the city in the run-up to World Breast Cancer Day, which is commemorated worldwide next Monday, 19 October, as part of the programme organised by Anémona to mark the occasion. The highlight of the scheduled activities will be the 24th Solidarity March, taking place this Sunday, 18 October, which is expected to bring together thousands of people for the now-traditional sea of pink that will wind its way through the streets of Benidorm.
The march will set off at 10 a.m. from Calle Puente and follow the entire length of Poniente Beach to the Mirador de la Música viewpoint, before returning to Plaza de SS MM los Reyes de España, where a bar will be set up to raise funds.
Anémona Marina Baixa continues to sell commemorative T-shirts for the march, designed this year by young Benidorm-born artist Marian López Martínez. They are available from the association’s headquarters in Calle La Biga, as well as from participating local businesses and the group’s information stands. T-shirts will also be available to purchase on the day of the march for €12, with proceeds helping to support the organisation. As in previous years, all funds raised during the event will go towards financing the therapeutic services provided by the association and the research carried out by Geicam, Spain’s leading breast cancer research group.
Mayor Toni Pérez has once again expressed “the full support of Benidorm City Council for Anémona Marina Baixa and our gratitude for the work they carry out throughout the year, with courage and determination, to support people affected by breast cancer”. He also encouraged residents to take part in all the activities organised by the association, particularly this Sunday’s Solidarity March.
Scheduled Activities
As part of the activities organised by Anémona Marina Baixa to mark World Breast Cancer Day, the 2026 Manifesto will be read this Monday, 19 October, at 7 p.m. in the Assembly Hall at Benidorm City Hall. This will be followed by a reading of the winning entry in the second edition of the short-story competition “One Idea, Few Words, a World”, organised for Year 10 students (fourth year of Compulsory Secondary Education).
In addition, a performance of the play “Group Therapy”, presented by the Tramontana theatre group, is scheduled for 23 October at 7 p.m., also in the Assembly Hall. Admission is free and open to the public, subject to venue capacity.
Throughout this week and next, Anémona Marina Baixa is also organising activities in other municipalities across the Marina Baixa region, extending its efforts to combat the spread of breast cancer to every corner of the region.
