Benidorm is installing the perimeter fencing for the campsite and youth hostel area at Séquia Mare

Benidorm City Council has begun installing the perimeter fencing for the campsite and youth hostel area at Séquia Mare park. The works are being carried out by Acciona Medio Ambiente and are expected to take approximately three months to complete. The project was visited by the Councillor for Parks and Gardens, José Ramón González de Zárate, who said that it “will complete the development of these new leisure facilities designed especially for young people.”

The project, with a budget of €241,593.47, is funded by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU funds. Specifically, it corresponds to Action 11B under Axis 4 of the Green Benidorm Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan, which forms part of Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan financed by the European Union through these funds. The works complement another project that is now almost complete—the campsite and multi-adventure area—which, according to the councillor, “has involved an investment of €710,000.”

González de Zárate explained that “a solid fence has been chosen, while ensuring it blends into the surrounding environment and at the same time provides privacy for users of the youth hostel and campsite.” The project also includes the creation of new footpaths to improve connectivity between these facilities and the rest of the park.

“The infrastructure and services we have developed in Séquia Mare park have turned it into a first-class environmental, recreational, ethnographic, cultural, tourism and sports asset. It is also highly accessible, as it is located very close to the urban area, in a site that was completely abandoned just a decade ago,” said the Councillor for Parks and Gardens.

In this regard, he recalled that in 2015 “this area was a degraded site—a landfill in the heart of the city—that generated numerous complaints from residents because of illegal dumping and fires.”

He went on to stress that, following the work carried out since then, “we have created a park, a water museum, a campsite, a youth hostel and an interpretation centre. Before the end of the year, all of these facilities will be available for the enjoyment of our residents and everyone who visits us.” González de Zárate described the project as “something we can all be proud of.”

The purpose of the perimeter fencing around the campsite and youth hostel is to separate these facilities from the rest of the park, ensuring privacy and independence for campers and hostel guests while allowing other visitors to enjoy the park without restrictions.
